Site Details

The Abstracted Reality Website is located at https://abstractedreality.com and is owned and operated by Jane Trotter.

Contact & Testimonial Forms

When visitors provide information in a form on the site I collect the data shown in the form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

When completing the testimonial forms, an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your testimonial, your profile picture may be visible to the public in the context of your testimonial.

Newsletter Subscription

Visitors to the site may wish to sign up to my mailing list to be notified of any new articles or additions to the website. If you no longer want to receive these communications from me, you can use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any emails or simply contact me.

I use MailChimp to manage my newsletter and by pressing the button to 'sign up' you are giving permission for the information you provided in the form to be shared with them.

Cookies

Some of my web pages use ‘cookies’, which are small files that may be placed on your hard disk. A cookie stores information which is retained for a period of time after each visit and can make your subsequent visits to the web page easier and more seamless. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. However, by not accepting cookies, some web pages may not display properly or you may not be permitted to access certain information.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How I use this information

Anonymous information is used in aggregate for research and to improve the site and services.  In all other cases, when you are asked to provide personal information, you will know what the intended purpose is at the time I collect it e.g. to send you my newsletter. If you do not want me to contact you, you can choose to ‘opt out’ at any time.

IP addresses (the Internet address of a computer) are logged to track a user’s session while the user remains anonymous. I analyse this data for trends, such as which parts of the site are being visited and how long visitors spend there. It is also used to aid in detecting and preventing fraudulent activities on this site.  If you choose to provide me with personal information, the IP address you use at the time is also recorded.

How long I retain your data

If you 'contact me' via the form on this website, the information provided is retained on the server for a period of 30 days and then automatically deleted. The correspondence that results from that interaction is retained on my private computer, for as long as is appropriate in the circumstances.

Information provided as a testimonial is retained indefinitely, even if not obviously visible on the website (testimonials are randomly displayed).

What rights you have over your data

If you contacted me, or completed a form on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
