Learn about the Premier 'Abstracted Reality' Fine Art Print

Your Limited Edition Print Options

For those that want the best of Abstracted Reality, the Abstracted Reality Fine Art Print is the premier artwork option. It's strictly limited to a maximum of 22 prints and once they are printed, that is it.

If something truly unique is more your style, the Collectors Series of prints may be what you are looking for.

The 'Abstracted Reality Fine Art Print'

When considering how to market my art, my primary consideration has been accessibility. I want those who like my work to be able to enjoy it on their wall and in public spaces, which is why all my work is available as Open Editions.

I do recognise that some art lovers prefer Limited Editions and the exclusivity that comes with such a print. Given I’m not prepared to truly limit access, the only way I can cater to their needs, while still remaining true to my primary goal, is to offer something that can’t be obtained from my print partners; the uncompromised print.

What is 'The Uncompromised Print'?

In order to make my art accessible, I have had to modify most images to fit common print aspect ratios and accept the papers and print processes that my partners offer. I've taken great care to ensure that my Open Edition print offerings via these partners are consistent with my expectations as to quality but equity of access comes with compromises. An 'Abstracted Reality Limited Edition Fine Art Print' doesn't have any!

The image itself will be the best it can be – I go through iterations to get a ‘pixel perfect’ image I am happy to put my name to – and this ‘master’ image is what will be sized to your specifications and then rigorously reviewed again before being sent to the lab for printing, on the highest quality paper available. I’ll do another quality check when it comes back to me, and if I’m happy to put my name to it, I’ll sign and number it for you.

In the case of the portrait orientation artworks, the print will be at my preferred aspect ratio of 1.414 (A3, A2 etc.), which means you will have to get it professionally framed (which of course you were going to do anyway).

At most, there will only ever be 22 prints that meet this standard – even the ones on my wall are earlier iterations (unsigned and not part of the edition) on the way to the master image which is the basis for the Limited Edition.

An Abstracted Reality Fine Art Print is...

  • Limited to 20 (+2 Artists Proofs) total, irrespective of size
  • A true 'Jane Trotter' print with no compromises made to accommodate the requirements of print partners
  • Manufactured to the highest standards on the highest quality paper
  • Custom sized to your specifications or choose from four standard sizes
  • Quality checked, signed and numbered by the Artist
  • Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity

Standard or custom sizing

As befits a premium product, you can (within some limitations) specify the size you require if none of the standard sizes appeal. All prints, irrespective of size are shipped to me from the printer where each is examined and quality checked before being hand signed and numbered.

Publishing Practices

As a general rule, I consider a Limited Edition to be specific number of reproductions of the original master image on a specific medium. If I wish to use the master image on a substantially different medium (for example aluminium) that would constitute a new edition (which may be Open or Limited).

Once the edition limit is reached, that's it. I don't believe it's ethical to artificially create a 'new' Limited Edition using the same image on a similar medium (poster for example) - I'll put the effort into creating a new artwork.

Open Editions on the same medium will always be variations of the master image (typically cropped or stretched to fit the printer partners' aspect ratios).

Artists Proofs

I feel it’s important to outline my view on Artists Proofs. Long story short, I consider them to be for my personal use, rather than as additional Limited Edition prints to be sold, other than in exceptional circumstances.

Typically, I keep the last print in the cycle of getting to a master image, and will occasionally frame it for myself (unsigned). These are for my reference and display at art shows etc. Technically these meet my definition of an Artists Proof, however I’m excluding them from the A.P. designation in relation to the Limited Edition.

It’s not my intention to actually sell any prints designated with A.P. although like anyone else, I’m not immune to the temptation of “outrageously silly money”. The primary reason I have added two A.P. prints to the Limited Edition is so I can legitimately hang one on my wall should I want to if the edition is ‘sold out’, and I can supply a copy to a museum or other public institution, should that opportunity arise.

In no instance will there ever be more than two prints with the A.P. designation for an artwork.

C-Type Prints on Fujiflex Professional Crystal Archive Paper

My goal is to provide you with the highest quality archival print possible, and my print partner and process are chosen with that goal top of mind.

For superior quality, I have chosen a partner that uses a Chromira 5X ProLab printer and prints on Fujiflex* Professional Crystal Archive paper.

The Chromira is considered one of the industry’s premium photographic output devices, using state-of-the-art, patented LED technology to expose digital information directly onto the photographic media, rather than spraying droplets of ink onto paper, as is the case with inkjet (Giclée) printing devices. I use the Chromira printing process for the exceptional clarity and colour it brings to my prints.

* Subject to maximum sizes. I reserve the right to change the specifics (i.e. type of print, paper stock) from that outlined above depending on circumstances, for instance, if the paper is out of stock at my printer. I will always discuss this with the client before the order progresses.

The Collectors Series

The process of creating an Abstracted Reality artwork is one of iteration. I take many photographs and learn from each, and when it comes time to process those images, that too is an iterative process as I seek to coax the perfect image from the source material. Over time the tools I use have improved and in 2022 I reworked all my images to create version 2.0 of the master image, which I now use as the basis for all prints (Open and Limited Edition).

This update has resulted in a unique situation.

Prior to 2023, all sales were A2 or larger - I like my work large and it seems everyone else does as well.  As an experiment some years ago, I investigated selling smaller sizes of my work via a local gallery, which required me to produce some inventory for their visitors to browse through. To my chagrin, this marketing experiment failed to result in any sales of the smaller sized works, and consequently, I was left with eleven prints (four at A4 and seven at A3) and two triptych print sets at A4.

All these prints are based on version 1 of the master image and given the lack of sales at these sizes, they are quite literally 'one (or two) of a kind'. Ironically one of the triptych sets is 'Three of a Kind'. 🙂

I am selling these as a one off ‘Collector’s Series’. Each will be hand signed, designated C.S. and numbered (1/1 or 1/2 depending on inventory number) and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

So, for those collectors looking to display in a smaller space, one of these may be the perfect addition to the collection. The Profile page for each artwork has information on whether that image is one of those in the Collectors Series.
